Dezela in Upper Carniola

On Monday (8 February) we had the Day of Culture. It is a national holiday in Slovenia for the purpose of promoting culture and arts. 8 February was chosen in memory of the great Slovenian romantic poet France Preseren who had died on 8 February 1849. Our group of hikers decided to visit Dezela, an area in Upper Carniola where a number of writers and scholars had been born. Our trail led us first to Zirovnica, then Breznica, Doslovce, Vrba, Rodine, Begunje and Radovljica.
At night new snow had fallen so we could enjoy one of the most beautiful days of this winter.

First we were walking through a forest.

Fresh snow.

Trees covered with snow.
