The next village we visited was Breznica, the birthplace of great Slovenian apiarist Anton Jansa. We stopped there to look at the reconstruction of Jansa's original beehouse.
First harbingers of spring.
The village Breznica in Upper Carniola.
The hikers looking at pictures on the Jansa's beehouse.
The pictures are painted on front wooden panels of beehouse-boxes.
One of the pictures on Jansa's beehouse. The folk art of painting beehouse panels spread from Upper Carniola throughout Slovenia. Through their painted representations of religious, common, tragic and homourous themes these panels (panjske koncnice) form an integral part of the Slovene cultural identity.
