During the war (1992-1995) about 70 000 Bosniaks and Croats (half of the city population) left or were forced to leave the city. They were replaced by Serbs from other parts of Bosnia and refugees from Croatia. Banja Luka is today a Serbian city. All mosques were destroyed.
